Flights affected and water service interrupted at Havana Airport by Helene

SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- The José Martí International Airport in Havana had to stop receiving flights this Thursday due to the adverse weather conditions associated with the Hurricane Helene.

In an official statement released in Facebookthe directors of the Havana airfield explained that due to the heavy rains and winds, several flights were temporarily suspended, including one returning from the group. Havana D’Primerawhich could not land on the Island and was taken to Jamaica.

The airlines affected were Copa Airlines and Viva Aerobús, with flights scheduled to land at José Martí Airport in the middle of the storm.

“Due to the meteorological situation caused by the proximity of the passage of Hurricane Helene, the landing at the José Martí International Airport of the Copa Airlines and Viva Aerobús airlines was limited,” the airport administration reported.

The affected Copa Airlines flights were CMP245 – CMP 371 – CMP 388. The airline itself reported that after an improvement in weather conditions they would land at night.

The affected flight of the Viva Aerobús airline was 843, which landed a day later at the José Martí International Airport.

On the other hand, and in addition to the rescheduled flights to Cuba, Hurricane Helene left the airport without water.

Terminal 3 suffered an interruption in its supply network due to an electrical failure due to strong storms.

Although the authorities reported on Thursday night that it had been resolved, the failure deprived the facility’s clients and workers of vital resources.

According to the members of the Cuban group Havana D’Firstthey were stranded at the Jamaica airport after the Copa Airlines plane could not land in Cuba due to weather conditions.

According to the director of the group, Alexander Abreu, after appearing in Quibdó, a Colombian municipality, capital of the department of Chocó, they were to return to Cuba this Wednesday, after stopping in Panama.

Although the plane attempted to complete the trip, it was impossible to get close due to the storms associated with Helene, a journey that caused great fear to the members of Havana D’Primerawho have been able to align themselves with Castro’s cultural policy by releasing songs such as “They Tell Me Cuba”, in which there are many phrases in the style of “a real Cuban gives his life for his land, and prepared for combat, he stands up to his flag.” clings.”

Hurricane Helene has caused chaos in Cuba after passing near the western territory. At least 264,000 homes were left without electricity in Artemisa and Pinar del Río.

The Artemisa Electric Company reported this Thursday that, after having restored electrical service to 70% of customers during the early hours of Wednesday, a setback was experienced that has left approximately 160,000 inhabitants of that territory no electricity.

Likewise, heavy rains from Helene caused flooding in some areas, mainly on the south coast. At Cabo de San Antonio, waves of three to five meters were recorded.
