Flight delays in Colombia due to global technological failure

In the case of Colombia, the Civil Aeronautics, the air authority in charge of coordinating the operation in the country, assured that they are monitoring the situation to analyze its impact, and in the case of El Dorado Airport in Bogotá, they mentioned that flight delays could occur.

From the evaluation, the Civil Aeronautics pointed out that although failures are occurring throughout the world, in the case of Colombia, the actions and management of the situation have led to the fact that at around 8 in the morning, the air operation is handled in the usual manner. However, El Dorado International Airport added, in its X account, that this situation would be affecting the check-in process of some airlines at El Dorado Airport, which could be causing delays.

“At El Dorado we have activated contingency plans to minimize any impact, and we are providing assistance to passengers. It is recommended to stay in touch with the airline for the latest information on flights, as cancellations and delays may occur,” recognizes the thread.

For its part, Latam Airlines assured that in its case the operation has not been affected by the massive disruption of the systems, however it recommends that users remain alert and informed about the status of their flight.

“Grupo Latam informs that, up to this moment, the operation has not been impacted by the massive affectation of the systems associated with Microsoft worldwide. Likewise, it recommends its passengers to check the status of the flights as a precautionary measure at www.latamairlines.com/cl/es/mis-viajes. We regret the inconvenience that this situation, beyond its responsibility, could cause to its passengers,” they concluded in the statement.

So far, no other airlines have commented on the matter.

In a statement, US technology giant Microsoft said it was taking “steps” to resolve the situation.

“Our services continue to see steady improvements as we continue to take mitigation measures”the company wrote on the social network X. It is not clear whether the problems mentioned by Microsoft are related to the computer failures reported globally.

A computer systems expert at Australia’s University of Melbourne, Toby Murray, said there were indications that the problem was related to a security tool called CrowdStrike Falcon.

“CrowdStrike is a global cybersecurity and threat intelligence company,” he explained.
