Lacalle Pou led the commemoration for the 83rd anniversary of the II Air Brigade
The President of the Republic attended the ceremony for the 83rd anniversary of the II Air Brigade, located at the Tte. 2nd Mario W. Parallada, in Durazno. The unit provides, in addition to its tasks, social and educational assistance in the department. Defense Minister Javier García announced the inauguration of a radar at the Santa Bernardina airport and indicated that work is being done to modernize the airspace.
Also present were the Commander in Chief of the Uruguayan Air Force (FAU), Luis De León; the Chief of the Defense Staff, Rodolfo Pereira; the commander of the II Air Brigade, Pedro Cardeillac, and the mayor of Durazno, Carmelo Vidalín.
The authorities awarded awards to the officers who went on to serve in other Air Force units, junior personnel who completed 30 years of service in the II Air Brigade, and non-commissioned officers who retired due to age. Then they watched the military parade.
Lacalle Pou highlighted, in dialogue with the media, that this administration acquired two Hercules C-130 aircraft and stated that it is in permanent contact with De León, to find out the needs of the service.
García stated that investments in aeronautics imply millions of dollars and that the needs “are solved little by little”, but that, in the same way, the commitments are being fulfilled. He reported that on July 25 a radar will be inaugurated at the Santa Bernardina airport, which was included in the concession to the company Aeropuertos Uruguay. “We are modernizing airspace control,” he said.
Cardeillac emphasized that it is the only service that is decentralized in the metropolitan area, which develops activities among which social action stands out, and the multiple links with Durazno institutions and its population.
The official advanced three undertakings that will materialize in the base located in Durazno: the transportable system for the reception, processing and application of meteorological data of multi-satellite integration, the operation of aircraft that will work in the Program for the Eradication of the Mosca de la Bichera and the process to transfer the Santa Bernardina airport to the company Aeropuertos Uruguay.
