The Brazilian government ratified this Thursday the decision to strengthen energy integration with Argentina and work together so that the exploitation of minerals such as lithium can generate economic and social development in both nationsaccording to a statement from the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy after the visit to Brasilia of the Argentine Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royón.
Royon held a meeting this Thursday in Brasilia with the Brazilian Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveirain which the Argentine ambassador in the neighboring country also participated, Daniel Scioli.
“We are going to work to increase energy imports. In the medium term, the idea is that the industry grows and that value is added to mining, strengthening the energy transition in our countries as well as energy infrastructures. In the long term, the The idea is to turn our countries into globally relevant energy providers with green hydrogen,” Royon said at the meeting.
For his part, the Brazilian minister emphasized the exploitation and processing of lithium, a mineral considered “key” to the energy transition.
“I have no doubt that we have great potential for collaboration in this agenda and that we just need to join forces to ensure that our mineral wealth generates more economic and social development and that we have an increasingly strong and growing energy transition,” Silveira said.
In this context, he stressed that with Royon agreed to strengthen the integration between Brazil and Argentina.
“Our objective is to optimize the rules and modalities for importing and exporting electrical energy between the two countries, increasing energy security and creating investment opportunities and competitiveness of our economies. That is why we are going to increase the electric exchange“, he added.
Looking ahead to the coming months, the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Brazil proposed to Argentina the holding of a business meeting of the energy sector in the state of Minas Gerais.
On the Brazilian side, the Secretary of Electric Power, Gentil Nogueira, the Secretary of Oil, Gas and Biofuels, Pietro Mendes, and the Secretary of Planning and Energy Transition, Thiago Barral, participated.
