After signing an agreement, Rio City Hall and the federal government held a ceremony this Thursday (3) to hand over the keys to the Gasologista land to the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo.
The land belonged to a fund managed by Caixa Econômica Federal and was sold at auction for over R$130 million. There are plans to build a new stadium for the club.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the Attorney General of the Union, Minister Jorge Messias, and the Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services, Esther Dweck, participated via videoconference, from Brasília, in the meeting that marked the officialization of the agreement.
The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, and the president of Flamengo, Rodolfo Landim, were at the center of operations in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
Lula said it was an important day for Flamengo and said he was fulfilling his promise to give Rio de Janeiro very special treatment.
“A team that has the fans that Flamengo has, the passion that Flamengo represents, it is very important that it has a football stadium.”
After the formalization, authorities and the press went to the ceremony to “hand over the keys” to the land, in São Cristóvão.
At this time, federal deputy Pedro Paulo represented Paes, who was prevented from participating in political acts by electoral law.
The president of Flamengo, Rodolfo Landim, described that the next step is to survey the land, assemble the basic project and request the necessary licenses for the construction of the stadium.
“This phase should last up to two years, hopefully less, and then the construction period begins. Our idea is, like the example we have in CT, to place a 50-meter-high mast with a flag in the middle of the land, for everyone who pass by see that this is our land.”
