The dismissal of the coach, demanded loudly by the Flamengo fans in recent games, was announced in a cold and short message published by the club on its social networks.
“The Flamengo Regatta Club informs that the coach Vítor Pereira and his technical commission no longer direct the professional cast”, says the message, wishing the Portuguese “good luck in the continuity of his career”.
Vítor Pereira arrived at Flamengo after the controversial dismissal of Dorival Júnioran experienced Brazilian coach who had recovered the potential of a team full of stars and last year had led them to win the Copa do Brasil and the Copa Libertadores.
Neither Mundia, nor Recopa, nor Carioca Championship
His work, however, did not convince anyone. As champion of the Libertadores, Vítor Pereira’s Flamengo failed in the FIFA Club World Cup, in which they did not reach a desired final against Real Madrid after losing in the semifinals against Saudi Al Hilal.
He also lost the final of the Recopa Sudamericana against the Ecuadorian Independiente del Valle, He bit the dust against Palmeiras in the Supercopa do Brasil and failed in the Carioca Championship, in whose definition he was thrashed 4-1 last Sunday by the Fluminense after winning 2-0 in the first leg.
It was the last straw, almost on the eve of the start of the Brazilian Championship and with the team, which has figures like the Uruguayan in its ranks Giorgian De Arrascaeta and Gabriel Barbosa ‘Gabigol’, in full dispute of the Libertadores, in which he debuted last week with a defeat against the Ecuadorian Aucas.
Jorge Jesus can return
Although the club has not yet confirmed it, the Brazilian press maintains that Flamengo will try to recover the Portuguese Jorge Jesus, coach with whom the Brazilian team won almost everything between 2019 and 2020.
However, Jorge Jesús has a contract with Turkish Fenerbahce until the end of May and until now he has not commented on the possibility of returning to Flamengo, despite the fact that he has been considering it for weeks.
