Flamengo secured the Copa do Brasil title after defeating Atlético-MG 1-0, this Sunday afternoon (10) in Belo Horizonte, in a match that was broadcast live by National Radio. This is the fifth opportunity in which Rubro-Negro has taken home the competition trophy, after winning in 1990, 2006, 2013 and 2022.

Rubro-Negro won the title because, in the first leg of the decision, last Sunday (3) at the Maracanã stadium, they won 3-1.
Initial pressure
Needing to score goals to win the Copa do Brasil title, the team led by Argentine coach Gabriel Milito created the best opportunities to score. The first came after just 4 minutes, with a first-time shot from Zaracho, who deflected it at Wesley before going out.
Nine minutes later, goalkeeper Rossi had to work to save a strong free kick from striker Hulk. In the 18th minute, the number 7 again gave Flamengo’s goalkeeper trouble by hitting a shot from the edge of the area.
At 24, Flamengo managed to create a good opportunity, when Wesley advanced from the right and crossed for Arrascaeta, who, with a fish, ended up finishing over the goal saved by Everson. But the clearest opportunity to score came from Galo. In the 35th minute, Rossi and Pulgar made a mistake inside the area and the ball went to Paulinho, who, with great freedom, finished, but the Rubro-Negro goalkeeper managed to recover and make the save.
A minute later, Flamengo created a great counterattack, but Lyanco made a foul to kill the move, which could have ended in a goal. The defender was punished with a yellow card, while the Flamengo fans asked for the defender to be sent off.
Did they breathe there? 😬
What was this first half, folks?

Decisive silver
After the break, coach Gabriel Milito launched his team into attack, placing center forward Alan Kardec in place of midfielder Otávio. And the change took effect quickly, with Galo creating good opportunities with Gustavo Scarpa, in the 8th minute, and with Hulk, in the 14th.
However, Atlético’s change gave Flamengo more space to attack, and the person who most took advantage of these opportunities was Bruno Henrique, who, after half-time, replaced Gabigol who did little in the match. In the 17th minute, the Rubro-Negro striker had a great opportunity to score when he came face to face with Everson to cover. But the Galo goalkeeper managed to hold on.
Three minutes later the ball fell to Michael, who, with great freedom, tried to dribble past Everson, but the Galo goalkeeper recovered the move and managed to gain control of the ball. Faced with a dangerous Flamengo on the counterattacks, Atlético could do little, and saw their opponent come in danger on yet another opportunity, in the 35th minute, when Everson once again shone to make a great save, this time from Alex Sandro.
After countless attempts, Rubro-Negro finally managed to be efficient in a counterattack, in the 37th minute. Bruno Henrique launched Plata, the Ecuadorian started at great speed from his team’s defense, dribbling past Saravia on the way, and hit the cover to beat Everson.

At the moment of the goal, Galo fans threw objects towards the Flamengo players, including a bomb that exploded near Plata. The match was then interrupted for around eight minutes.
When the ball rolled again, Rubro-Negro had another great opportunity to score, in the 46th minute, when Bruno Henrique counterattacked and crossed for Wesley, who hit the first time to save Everson. Four minutes later, Galo was left with a man down, when Saravia ended up being sent off after bringing down Bruno Henrique at the edge of the area in a clear scoring opportunity. A minute later, defender David Luiz took the free kick very well and forced goalkeeper Everson to make his last big save in the decision.
With the new victory, Flamengo secured their fifth Brazilian Cup title.
