The last continental decision between two Brazilians had Botafogo’s unprecedented title, with a great 3-1 victory over Atlético-MG at the Monumental de Núñez stadium, in Buenos Aires (Argentina).
Two years earlier, the trophy went to Flamengo, who defeated Athletico-PR by a score of 1-0, on October 29, 2022, at the Monumental stadium in Guayaquil (Ecuador).
Rubro-Negro was also involved in the final of the 2021 edition of the competition. However, on that occasion, the Gávea team was defeated by Palmeiras by a score of 2-1, in extra time, at the Centenário stadium, in Montevideo (Uruguay).
In 2020, Verdão also won the title, beating Santos 1-0 at the Maracanã stadium.
The first edition of the Libertadores with a Brazilian final was in 2005, when São Paulo defeated Athletico-PR. A year later, the Morumbi team returned to seek continental success, but the trophy went to Internacional.
