After defeats in the last two finals of the competition, Flamengo finally released the Champions League Champion’s cry of the Americas Basketball (BCLA), beating Boca Juniors, from Argentina, 83-57, in the decision played on Saturday (19), at the Maracanãzinho Gymnasium, in Rio de Janeiro. Earlier, in the dispute of third place, Franca defeated the Institute of Cordoba, also of Argentina, 74 to 59.
In the final, Flamengo took control of the match from the beginning, going to the break with a 20 -point advantage (49 to 29). The Argentine team rehearsed a reaction on the return of the locker rooms, but the red-black contained the opponent’s momentum and had the 16 points of Gui Deodato to secure the title. The point guard Alexey was elected the most valuable player (MVP) of the competition.
Flamengo, who exchanged the coach in mid-season, from Gustavo de Conti to Argentine Sergio Hernández, reached the second BCLA title, equaling to Argentina’s Quimsa, as the biggest winner in the short history of the championship. Franca and Sao Paulo won the other two trophies in the six years when the competition has been played so far.
NBB has defined knockout
Also on Saturday, the main competition of men’s basketball clubs in Brazil completed its classification phase. The last two matches of New Basketball Brazil (NBB) had Botafogo’s victory over Bauru 85 to 84, away from home and Sao Paulo over Brasilia 88 to 79 at home.
Now, the eight round of 16 confrontations, decided in the best of five games, are already defined.
