Before finishing 2025, the polygraphic José Miró Argenter de Holguín will begin to print national color press, integrating five years later into the technological reconversion program promoted by the Cuban graphic industry.
Carlos González Mulet, the director of the entity, reported that the new technology, part of the third stage of a national project after Havana and Villa Clara, will be operational in December, Point out A report of the Cuban News Agency.
The civil work, currently 50 %, progresses without interrupting the production of newspapers with traditional teams.
Specialized machines, acquired through agreements with China, will allow high quality impressions for magazines, books and catalogs, in addition to the press, strengthening competitiveness.
Under the Soygragra brand, the graphic base business unit of Holguín seeks to expand chains with new economic actors.
This project is part of a national initiative that, since 2020, has transformed graphic impression in Cuba. From June of that year, the Villa Clara polygraphic assumed the production of four colors for provinces from Pinar del Río to Camagüey, while Holguín maintained white, black and third color impressions.
Despite an outbreak of COVID-19 in May 2020 that threatened production in Villa Clara, the workers continued to operate under strict sanitary measures.
Press in colors will reach the majority of provinces in Cuba
The modernization program began in 2018, and in its first stage the graphic company of Havana had to assume the impression of the newspapers of the central and national provinces newspapers –Granma, Rebel youth and Workers– They are distributed in that region.
In that first phase, local newspapers benefited by this change were Vanguardfrom Villa Clara; September 5of Cienfuegos; Escambrayby Sancti Spíritus; and Invaderof blind from Ávila, those that are printed and distributed with a weekly frequency.
