One of the alleged members of the drug trafficking network led by Julio de los Santos Batista, alias julito kilowas sentenced to five years in prison, after the First Court of Instruction of the Judicial District of San Pedro de Macorís accepted the abbreviated criminal agreement that he made with the Public Ministry.
Is about Edwin Antonio Perez de los Santos, 29 years old, cousin of julito kilowho was extradited on August 19 to Puerto Rico, where he faces international drug trafficking charges.
According to a note from the Attorney General’s Office, in the agreement the defendant admitted the facts and accepted the sentence, with the confiscation of the movable and immovable property that belonged to the criminal structure.
The Specialized Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Prosecutor’s Office and the San Pedro de Macorís Prosecutor’s Office said that Pérez de los Santos “maintained an active participation in the aforementioned network since he was 19 years old, as a front man and figurehead.”
ANDhe Public Ministry attributed buying a mansion to his aunt, the mother of the extradited, illicit negotiation whose objective was to distort the goods acquired by Santos Bautista, as a result of the sale of prohibited substances.
Likewise, during the process, the criminal prosecution body established that Pérez de los Santos owned high-end vehicles in his name, properties that differed from his financial profile and whose acquisition he could not justify.
The man sentenced today was found guilty of violating the provisions contained in articles 2 (numbers 1, 11, 12, 15 and 26), 3 (numbers 1, 2, and 3), 4 (number 9) and 9 (numbers 1 and 2) of Law 155-17, on Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism in the Dominican Republic.
They highlight condemnation
The interim heads of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office against Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing and the Prosecutor’s Office of San Pedro de Macorís, Court Prosecutor Ramona Nova and Prosecutor Suleyka Mateo, respectively, stated that convictions such as these “deal a heavy blow to members of that criminal organization led for several years by De los Santos Bautista from San Pedro de Macorís”.
Edwin Antonio Pérez de los Santos will serve his sentence at the Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR-11), in San Pedro de Macorís.
