Five years after the civic rebellion, Ortega increases his repressive level, denounce organizations

The Nicaragua Fight Coalition denounced that five years after the commemoration of the civic rebellion of April 19, 2018, in Nicaragua, the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo has implemented a new stage of repression in which it has “sophisticated its methods , in a country whose citizens continue in total vulnerability.

Despite the constant wave of repression in Nicaragua, the Coalition, made up of 20 civil society organizations, pointed out that the international community is witness that “the resistance of the Nicaraguan people is a valuable example for Latin America and the world of how a people organizes in his day to day to build memory”.

He also pointed out that “impunity continues to be fought after the deliberate destruction of democracy, civic space and guarantees for the free exercise of human rights.”

“We celebrate the hope forged by the love and pain of all the families of the victims who were murdered, of each Nicaraguan whose life is impacted by an authoritarian regime that, in the 21st century, has absolute control of the powers of the State and on the security forces,” added the agglomerated organizations.

They also emphasized that, on the fifth anniversary of the April protests, the Nicaraguan people “continue to resist the State terrorism imposed on the country, rebuilding the social fabric from hope, even in exile. We remember that the pursuit of universal justice fuels every impulse of our struggle.”

They affirmed that as a Coalition they will continue to be indignant at the injustices committed in the country and accompany all the people “who face an authoritarian regime until they find new paths for future generations.”

«Nicaragua is not alone, the encouragement of each student, peasant and indigenous, woman, girl and boy, journalist and citizen who was part of the April 2018 Rebellion consolidate a collective memory, not only of the history of a country, nor of a region, nor of an entire continent, but of all humanity”, they remarked.

For its part, the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega has carried out its own commemoration of April 19, declaring this historic date a National Day of Peace, however its siege and arbitrary arrests against opponents have not ceased.
