A recent technical inspection was carried out, “and no failures were detected”, even so, the bridge ended up being broken over the La Vieja river, via Valle – Quindío, and the alternative routes will generate more expenses for the transport of cargo in the country.
News Valley.
After the blow to the southwest of the country due to the landslide in Rosas, Cauca, on the Pan-American highway more than three months ago, now the blow is between the Coffee Region and the center of the country, with the fall of the El Alambrado bridge that communicates with Valle del Cauca with Quindío.
This bridge was built in 1968, restructured in 1984, the ANI handed over the concession to the Consorcio Autopista del Café, and was intervened in 2005.
This April 13, 2023 has collapsed and split.
The last technical inspection that had been done was three months ago. “No faults had been detected on the bridge, Controls are made to the road infrastructure and they had not reported any anomalies.
However, wear that was not detected is not ruled out.
- A police truck, a car and three more trucks; one of them in the bed of the river, they were passing when it parted.
- A Police sub-intendent and a patrolman, assigned to the school in Tuluá, died.
Faced with this emergency, the alternative route:
- From the Valley: Zarzal – La Paila – Cartago and Pereira.
- From Qundio: Heavy-duty vehicles must move along the Calarcá-Armenia-Pereira-Cartago route.
- The lightweight vehicles they must move along the Quimabaya – Alcalá -Cartago route.
This road has a high traffic of cargo vehicles, therefore, the affectation from the free zone from the Coffee Axis is high. “More expenses in logistics, gasoline, one flies to Cerritos to return to Quindío, means more tolls.”
Municipalities in the north of Valle del Cauca and those of Quindío are on alert, this because the other main road has been closed for more than five months after the damage to the Barragán bridge.
This Thursday, this is how the emergency site woke up, as far as TuBarco arrived.
