The five provinces that led the generation of formal employment in the country last March were Peravia (177), National District (88), San Pedro de Macorís, (81), La Altagracia (75) and San Juan (48), when taking into account the variation in the number of workers for every 10,000 inhabitants.
In contrast, the provinces with the greatest reductions in this sector were Hato Mayor (-680), Elías Piña (-209), Santiago Rodríguez (-50) and Bahoruco (-20).
According to the monthly report “Sector Overview” of March, of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development, when comparing that month with December 2021, the moonlighting sector represented a drop of 3.2%, as a result of decreases in the economic sectors: other services, commerce and public administration. On the other hand, hotels, bars, restaurants, communications and manufacturing experienced increases.
The figures presented also ensure that, at the end of March, the formal Mypimes sector closed with a year-on-year reduction of 1.2% in the number of companies that report to the Dominican Social Security System. Likewise, a negative variation of 9.6% was registered with respect to December 2021.
The number of jobs in the Mipymes sector stood at approximately 54,000, for a year-on-year increase of 6.8%. Compared to December 2021, it had a decline of 2.4%, due -in good proportion- to the reduction in moonlighting.
Meanwhile, the number of formal jobs pointed to a year-on-year growth of 11.5%, meaning 241.4 thousand jobs. Compared to December 2021, it had an accumulated increase of 0.8%, equivalent to 18.0 thousand jobs.
The Ministry of Economy also highlights that in March there was a year-on-year increase in average wages of 1.4%.
