SNTO DOMINGO.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) placed five provinces and the National District on green alert this Friday, due to a trough in the upper levels of the troposphere and the passage of a tropical wave will be generating moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms and occasional gusts of wind.
The provinces on green alert are Santo Domingo, National District, San Cristobal, San Jose de Ocoa, Monsignor Nouel and Monte Plata.
The COE recommends that people refrain from crossing rivers, streams and ravines with high water volumes in the provinces under alert.
The National Meteorological Office reported that the trough and the tropical wave will be generating clouds, showers, thunderstorms and gusts of wind over different provinces in the regions: north, northeast, the eastern plain, the Caribbean coastal line and the Central Mountain Range. Mainly over La Altagracia, El Seibo, Santiago, Hato Mayor, Samaná, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Monte Plata, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Espaillat, Greater Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Sánchez Ramírez and San Pedro de Macorís.
He indicated that tomorrow, Saturday, the humidity and instability associated with the tropical wave and the trough will continue to favor a cloudy environment from early morning until late at night, followed by very heavy showers at times, thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind locally over much of the country.
This rainy activity will be mainly concentrated in La Altagracia, San Pedro de Macoris, Greater Santo Domingo, Peravia, Azua, Barahona, Monte Plata, Sanchez Ramirez, Monsignor Nouel, Santiago, Santiago Rodriguez, Dajabon and Elias Pine.
Also, on the Atlantic and Caribbean coasts, operators of fragile, small and medium-sized vessels are advised to navigate with caution and not venture out to sea due to abnormal winds and waves.
