Five officials of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) were captured for their alleged participation in the death by mechanical suffocation of a prisoner, according to judicial sources.
The events occurred last Saturday at the PNB offices located in San Francisco (Zulia), where Emmanuel Alejandro Piñero Ávila, a 28-year-old former soldier, was being held, the source said.
This person was transferred to a health center in the aforementioned Zulian municipality, after presenting chest pain. But she entered the General Hospital of the South without vital signs, the sources explained.
The autopsy found the cause of death to be “mechanical asphyxia due to suffocation and obstruction of the roads.”
Upon learning of these results, a Cicpc commission arrested the 5 uniformed officers identified as Junior de Jesús Morillo González, Germán José Nava, Henry Javier Gutiérrez Reyes, Leonardo José Morales Leal and Jeniré Báez, who were handed over to the Public Ministry.
