Five people arrested in Santiago de Cuba accused of painting anti-government graffiti

LIMA, Peru – Several people were detained in Santiago de Cuba by the Cuban regime on charges of painting anti-government graffiti in favor of political prisoners in the city.

José Daniel Ferrer, Cuban opponent and leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), denounced via Facebook that among those detained is an activist from his organization and Cuba Decide, Liusban John Utra, who was transferred to the province of Las Tunas.

Additionally, citizens Josefina Reyes London, Ulises Reyes Ramis, his son and a neighbor were arrested, people who do not belong to any dissident group or organization.

“Due to suspicions that they have put graffiti, the tyranny has detained and is prosecuting Liusban John Utra, an activist from UNPACU and Cuba Decide. Also four people from Santiago who are not organized opponents,” Ferrer stressed.

In recent weeks, posters have appeared on walls and streets in the eastern province with messages such as “DH” for human rights, “Homeland and Life”, “Down with the dictatorship”, or “Freedom for political prisoners”.

“The more innocent people they arrest, the more graffiti against tyranny and in favor of the freedom of political prisoners appears in towns and cities in Cuba,” highlighted the opposition leader, who also warned about a new wave of repression by the regime.
