Five inmates escaped this Thursday, February 14, from the dungeons of the Police Intelligence Directorate of the Bolivarian National Police (GNP) in Barinas.

The authorities managed to recapture two of the five fugitives, according to statements made by a police source to A Window to Freedom.

According to their testimony, the inmates managed to open a hole in one of the cells and took advantage of an oversight by the guards to escape.

When security became aware of the fact, the alarms and a security fence were activated, cordoning off the entire area. However, three of the inmates managed to circumvent security and are still on the run. These are: Gerson Omar Gómez Sánchez, José Antonio González López and Adail Calleja. The three were being prosecuted for drug possession and disorderly conduct.

As a result of the case, it was learned that the police officers who were on duty were placed at the order of the Public Ministry. In addition, they will be separated from their positions while they face the charges that are imputed to them for prisoner escape during their guard and custody.
