At least 5 deaths due to traffic accidents are recorded in the state of Zulia, at the beginning of 2025.
According to the police report, recklessness has been the main cause of the road accidents.
The consumption of alcohol, disrespect for signs and the use of cell phones are among the reckless driving.
At 4:30 in the morning on January 1, the first road event occurred on the Palito Blanco road in the La Concepción parish.
When Yoel Andrés Ríos González, 35, and Enderson Enrique Bohórquez, 24, were traveling on a motorcycle along the aforementioned road and lost control of the vehicle. Both died in the incident.
After 5 in the afternoon of this same day, in the San Sebastián sector of the same La Concepción parish, a married couple also died in a traffic accident.
The victims, identified as Yender Junior Chaparro Pérez, 21, and his partner Naiyerlin Paola Villalobos Suárez, 19, were traveling on a motorcycle along the main road of the sector, when they were hit by the driver of a vehicle of which only “They reported that it was a Chevrolet Malibu,” according to the police report.
Chaparro Pérez died at the scene, while his partner died some time later in the emergency room at the Maracaibo University Hospital.
The fifth victim
Almost twelve hours after the first accident, in the early hours of Thursday, January 2, a woman died in a road accident, near the Barbacoa service station, on the road to La Cañada de Urdaneta.
The victim was identified as Katherine Montes and served as an official of the Bolivarian National Police.
The investigations revealed that the first officer was on a motorcycle with a man, who had allegedly lost control and hit a fixed object.
The official died at the scene, while the driver of the motorcycle, named Alexander Antonio Gómez Mendoza, 21, was detained and under investigation.
Hours later it would be found that the citizen was under the influence of alcohol.
Seriously injured
This Friday, in the La Punta sector, located on the Troncal del Caribe highway, south of Paraguaipoa, Guajira municipality, police authorities reported another accident.
The injured were rushed to the Binational Hospital of Paraguaipoa to receive medical attention.
Due to the severity of some injuries, several patients were referred to more complex health centers in Maracaibo and other locations in search of specialized care.
Until now, the exact causes of this accident and the health status of the victims are unknown.
