Five Cubans nominated for the Grammys 2023

Grammy, cubanos, Cimafunk, músicos, Arturo Sandoval

MADRID, Spain.- Five Cuban musicians are nominees to the Grammy Awards 2023, delivered annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States. They are Camila Cabello, Cimafunk, Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo Sandoval and Arturo O’Farrill.

Camila Cabello was nominated in the category of Best Pop Duo/Group Song, for her hit “Bam Bam”, released with Ed Sheeran in March 2022. The Cuban competes with Coldplay & BTS (“My Universe”), ABBA (“ Don’t Shut Me Down”), Post Malone & Doja Cat (“I Like You”) and Sam Smith & Kim Petras (“Unholy”).

While the popular Erick Iglesias, known as Cimafunk, opts for the award for Best Latin/Alternative Rock Album with his album The food.

This is the second album in the career of Cimafunk, who has shared the stage with artists such as Alejandro Sanz, Paulina Rubio and Gwen Stefani.

The native of Pinar del Río, interpreter of the hit song “Me voy”, will compete for the Grammy with great figures such as the Argentinean Fito Páez and the Uruguayan Jorge Drexler.

For his part, he jazzman Paquito D’Rivera, who already has 15 Grammys, was nominated in the Best Instrumental Composition section for “African Tales”, an original work he composed for musicians Tasha Warren and Dave Eggar.

Meanwhile he trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and the musician Arturo O’Farrill are competing for Best Latin Jazz Album.

Sandoval, who would take home his tenth Grammy if he won, was nominated with Rhythm & Soul.

Arturo O’Farrill arrives with the album Fandango At The Wall In New York with his band The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, together with The Congra Patria Son Jarocho Collective. This is the third consecutive year that O’Farrill has been nominated in the same category.

The Grammy Awards gala will take place on February 5, 2023 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on CBS television.
