“Fishing is recovering, landings of fishery resources for indirect and direct human consumption have grown, contributing 0.6% to the national GDP and contributing S/ 291 million as a result of extractive and transformative activity,” said the head of PRODUCE, Sergio González Guerrero.
It should be noted that, in the seventh month of 2024, fishing landings totaled 186,730 tons, meaning an increase of 56.2% compared to what was recorded in July 2023 (119,540 MT).
Likewise, in the cumulative period from January to July 2024, compared to the same period last year, landings increased by 95.7%, with more than 3.4 million tons unloaded.
CHI and CHD fishing on the rise
Minister González Guerrero said that the landing for Indirect Human Consumption (CHI) reached a volume of 39,200 tons last July, mainly from the southern zone due to the unloading of anchovy resources, highlighting the ports of Matarani, Mollendo, Ilo and Pacocha.
Regarding the contribution of landings for Direct Human Consumption (CHD), an increase of 23.5% was observed, registering 147,530 tons, impacting the canning industry (+24.8%), frozen (+36.2%) and fresh (+8.7%).
“The species that had a positive impact on the increase in CHD landings were horse mackerel (+109.2%), anchovy (+247.0%), scallop (+264.5%) and hake (+663.4%), favoured by oceanographic conditions,” concluded the head of the sector.
