The Ministry of Production (Produce) reported that, during the period from January to September 2024, Peruvian exports of fishing products reached a value of US$3,185.7 million, which represents a significant growth of 29.9% compared to the same period. from the previous year.
The head of Produce, Sergio González, explained that this increase is mainly due to the greater demand for fish meal, fish oil, canned products and resources such as mahi mahi, horse mackerel, anchovy and tuna, which have greater acceptance. abroad.
“With this result, Peru reaffirms its position as one of the main generators of foreign currency in the global fishing market, thanks to its traditional and non-traditional hydrobiological products that boost the national economy,” he stated.
Likewise, he indicated that the most important markets for Peruvian fishing products include China, the United States, Spain, Chile, Japan and South Korea. These destinations, together, represented US$2,340 million, equivalent to 73.4% of the total exported.
“The country continues to strengthen its role as a leader in the export of hydrobiological products, reaffirming its commitment to the sustainability and quality of its products to satisfy the demands of the global market,” González concluded.
