With songs, applause and giving thanks to the Virgen del Valle, the town of La Guardia, in the Díaz municipality of Nueva Esparta state, received the five fishermen, crew members of the Águila Nueva boat who have been missing since last Friday.
Juan León, José Francisco Zabala, Luis Rodríguez, José Rafael Marín and Francisco José Marín, fishermen from La Guardia, left to fish in the Los Frailes archipelago on Friday and planned to return on Sunday.
However, the boat presented engine failures, which resulted in them diverting course and shipwrecked.
Air and sea search
Since Monday, fishermen from the town of La Guardia began the search for the “Águila Nueva” crew members, in which security agencies also participated, who deployed by sea and air to find the whereabouts of the sailors.
In the afternoon of this June 20, one of the boats found the fishermen alive and managed to tow them to Manzanillo beach, Antolín del Campo municipality, after more than 72 hours of shipwreck. Later they arrived at their homes in the Díaz municipality.
