The Association of Fishermen Isabela River Caribbean Sea (Asoprimac) and the Ozama Isabela Block of Community and Social Organizations demanded the construction of a mini port in The Zurza so that the fishermen can earn a living from their families.
The demand is made to the director of the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation (Caasd), Felipe Suberví, director of the entity that was in charge of occupying the space they had to build the pumping station that carries sanitary waste to the plant. The Zurza in North Santo Domingo.
Francisco Reyes, spokesperson for the fishermen and community organizations, said that the Caasd must continue with the collateral works to the treatment plant that includes the relocation of the fishermen that for many years occupied part of the place where the drain works today.
“We had a small slipway and they dismantled it to place an emergency pipe in the pumping station. During the administration of Alejandro Montás they made an architectural plan for us, but they have not complied,” said Reyes.
He explained that the community has jealously guarded the area where the house of the fishermen and what will be a park on the banks of the Isabela.
The community leader stated that Suberví received them last year to talk about the issue, but from then on they have never had contact.
He indicated that in addition to the lack of slipway for fishermenthere is still one family to be relocated from the little houses that were on the banks of the Isabela River where they were settled to build line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro.
He reported that under the management of Felipe Suberví, nine buildings of four levels each have been built in the place and that some are empty while a family still remains on the banks of the river. He said that of the 72 apartments inaugurated, only 29 have been delivered.
