Fisherman who fell from a boat in San Juan del Sur still does not appear

On Saturday, November 26, at three in the afternoon, fisherman Pedro Joaquín Tenorio Merlo, 53, and three other crew members, began their fishing activity at El Remanso beach, San Juan del Sur. At the end of the day one of the members did not return.

The fisherman, who is still missing, responds to the name of Héctor Luis Tenorio Merlo, 48 years old. He lives in the “Camino del Sol” community in San Juan del Sur and has been dedicated to fishing since he was 18 years old. Tenorio apparently fell into the sea at dawn on Sunday, November 27. According to statements, no crew member noticed, including his brother Pedro Tenorio Merlo, captain of the boat ‘Amex 9’, and who has more than 30 years of experience as a fisherman in the coastal zone and assures that he had never before faced a similar situation.

The incident occurred about three nautical miles off the coast of El Remanso beach in San Juan del Sur. According to the captain of the boat, they decided on Saturday night to anchor off the coast of this beach, the tasks that all the crew members of the boat carried out were for two consecutive days.

“We decided to rest and wait for Sunday to be able to continue with the fishing activities, but none of the fishermen who were in the panga realized when my brother fell into the sea, it was not until Sunday morning that we realized that Héctor was not there, we began the search without ceasing, but we were forced to return without my brother to the port of San Juan del Sur, because we were already running out of fuel”, lamented Tenorio.

He recounts that at the time of the incident there was a light drizzle that, together with the sound of the sea and the fatigue of all the fishermen, made it impossible for them to hear when Héctor Tenorio fell into the sea.

When leaving the port of San Juan del Sur, the captain of the boat requested help from the Naval Force, to continue the search for his brother, the other fishermen in the area, upon learning of what happened, also joined the search for Merlo, who was very loved and known in the area of ​​the municipality of San Juan del sur, the Tenorio Merlo family has been dedicated to fishing for years.

“Everyone here is surprised, we have not told my mother anything about what happened because she is a woman over 80 years old and we do not know how she will react to this unfortunate news, she is on medication and is sick, already He asked us about him, we have faith in God that the body appears so that we can give him a Christian burial”, commented a sister of the unfortunate man.

The fishermen of the boat searched as far as the maritime border with Costa Rica, without losing hope of finding Hector’s body, despite the search and massive effort by the Naval Force and fishermen in the area, the body de Tenorio has not yet been located.
