He Fiscal Council warned today that the general budget of the Republic for the period corresponding to the year 2025, recently approved by Parliament, would not be balanced as required by the Constitution.
Through a statement, he pointed out that the Congress of the Republic has introduced “dozens of articles and provisions in the 2025 budget law that generate public spending in said budget year that could be unconstitutional.”
He added that in many cases these initiatives do not have a “quantification of their costs nor an identification of the corresponding financing sources.”

“The approval in recent days of multiple legislative initiatives by the Congress of the Republic affects the ability to collect tax revenues and generate new public spending obligations. Therefore, if enacted they will have a negative impact on the fulfillment of fiscal goals. medium and long term,” he stressed.
The Fiscal Council, in this sense, urged the authorities of the Executive and Legislative Branch to “act with prudence in matters of initiatives with fiscal impact in order not to compromise the sustainability of public finances.”
He also reaffirmed his commitment to “provide technical support and within his powers to the different branches of the State to achieve responsible fiscal management that guarantees fiscal sustainability.”
