“There is not and there will never be any justification for his alleged perpetrator, nor a sentence that makes the social loss that this death means less painful,” the first lady said in a statement posted on her social networks.
“We join the pain of their parents and relatives and we hope that Justice does not leave a single requirement for impunity in this case,” said the first lady.

Arbaje said that Gana, committed to the well-being of children and adolescents, “deeply regrets the death of Esmeralda, a young woman full of life and dreams shattered by violence.”

Regarding the case, the investigation indicates that at night on February 12, the adolescent left the home where she lived with her parents in Vista Alegre, in the municipality of Higüey, La Altagracia province (east) in the company of Martínez, as well as Rubiel Morrillo Martínez, the defendant’s cousin, and three other underage students.
She says that, when she returned home, around 12:00 at night, the young woman arrived pale and bleeding, for which her parents helped her and she stayed in her room.
The teenager’s parents found the lifeless minor in the bathroom of their residence the next day.
The Public Ministry has requested a year of preventive detention against Martínez and periodic presentation against his cousin Morrillo Martínez.
