British Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed that a person died in the United Kingdom due to the omicron variant of COVID-19, and also mentioned that this variant is already beginning to cause hospitalizations in the territory.
The British leader was visiting a vaccination center in London and from there he spoke about that variant, rejecting what has been said to generate less worrisome or milder effects than other variants of the coronavirus, which have already left devastating effects in the United Kingdom.
“This idea that it is a milder version of the virus is something that we must put aside and recognize how quickly it is accelerating (its spread) through the population. So the best we can do is get all the booster doses,” Johnson told the media.
Johnson added that 40% of the cases of COVID-19 that exist at the moment in London already belong to this variant and the different hospitals have begun to receive more patients infected with this strain.
That is why he announced that from this week they will offer the booster dose to all people over 18 years of age in England. The only requirement is that three months have passed after the second dose, as the intention is to prevent a large number of infections that are expected in the next few days.
