Health Minister Francisco Sucre confirmed that there was the first death from monkeypox in our country, the statements were made during the signing of an international agreement between MINSA and the International Regional Organization for Agricultural Health (OIRSA) to reinforce the mechanisms for the export of meat from Panama to the United States, which took place in a hotel located in Albrook.
“Yesterday (April 12) we confirmed the first death due to a case of monkeypox in a patient with decreased immunity and this is added to the monkeypox that complicated it and unfortunately in Panama we have the first case of death due to monkeypox in our country,” declared Sucre.
Minister Sucre also said that the person who died of monkeypox was a 35-year-old man who was a carrier of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
