First containers with Paraguayan pork sent to Taiwan

Hoy Paraguay

The first containers of frozen meat bound for Taiwan left this week, the first of the demanding Asian markets opened for this product.

The financial director of the Paraguayan Meat Chamber, César Ros, explained that there are three containers of 25,000 gross kilos that they are embarking and that they will arrive in March.

The entry of this product into the Taiwan market represents a great achievement for the pig sector, since it involved years of intense work by both producers, industry and the public sector.

“These authorizations are often made difficult by the health status that our country has, but we managed to overcome barriers and enable this market. Last year we also started exporting to Uruguay, which within the region is also a fairly demanding country in terms of health,” Ros said in a conversation with Radio 1000.

valued that In the last two years, very significant progress was made in the opening of markets for meat, and pork meat in particular. “We are advancing in the development process of the pig sector.” he stated.

Likewise, he explained that for the export of pork meat two categories have been defined: one is chilled meat and another is frozen meat.

“In the case of Taiwan, chilled meat is tax free, but frozen meat is taxed at 12% and that affects our competitiveness in the Taiwanese market, we are still placing the product,” he explained.
