The Civic Committee of Beni, through a public statement addressed to the President Luis Arce Catacora, demands the annulment of Supreme Decree No. 5203, which they consider a serious threat to the legal security and economy of the department.
He points out that the livestock, agricultural and agro-industrial sectors, both in the Rural, community, indigenous and private areas will be seriously affected by the imposed measures.
He adds that they are not there to burn the food of their cattle and destroy their own agricultural production areas and timber forests. Remember, too, that fires not only destroy the natural environment, but also the productive infrastructure, built over years of effort and resources.
“For these reasons, we demand that the President Luis Arce the immediate annulment of DS No. 5203which establishes high fines and exaggerated sanctions,” the statement reads.
In addition, They request that Beni be declared a zone of natural disaster due to significant economic losses and damage caused by the fires.
“We demand that the department of Beni be declared a natural disaster zone and implement, budget and execute an action and impact mitigation plan “immediately to mitigate the damage and effects caused to the economy, health, ecosystems and the environment due to the ecocide we are experiencing,” the document states.
They warn that if their demands are not metwill take the measures necessary.
It should be remembered that the governor of Beni, Alejandro Unzueta, issued Departmental Decree 13/2024 last Friday, declaring his department in a state of disaster due to extreme drought and forest fires.
