Firefighters find more victims of the flooded mine in Bolívar: five bodies recovered

The authorities of the Bolívar state gave an assessment of the rescue efforts of the miners buried in a gold deposit in the town of El Callao, after the heavy rains that fell on Sunday in this town, which flooded tunnels of several meters.

He Fire Department of the Roscio municipality reported through instagram that until 4:54 p.m. of this Friday had been recovered five bodies after the accident. In the morning, rescue teams had located one of the victimswhile on Thursday night they reported the recovery of another.

Until the time of publication of this note, no new findings have been recordedand the Search and rescue efforts continue in the area.

According to official reports, a total of fourteen miners they lost their lives for immersion in the deposit.

The firefighters explained that the National Service of Medicine and Forensic Sciences will be in charge of identifying the bodies due to the “advanced state of decomposition” in which they were found.

The search operation was supported by emergency teams from the General Mining Company of Venezuela (Minerven), Civil Protection and the fire departments of the municipalities of El Callao, Sifontes, Angostura del Orinoco and Roscio.

On Tuesday, local authorities had already announced the deployment of rescue teams to recover the 14 deceased workers. Since Monday, Roscio Firefighters have been working on draining the water and extracting the bodies trapped inside the mine.

Rains impact 7,000 families in Venezuela

On the other hand, the Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, reported on Thursday that Venezuela has recorded 300% more rain than expected during 2025.

He explained that this increase has affected more than 7,000 families throughout the country and attributed it to the climate crisis.

The rains, which began at the end of June, have left a trail of damage in much of western Venezuela. States such as Barinas, Táchira, Trujillo, Mérida, Portuguesa and Guárico report floods, landslides and cut-off communities.
