Firefighters declared the fire in Algorta extinguished

The National Fire Department announced that the fire in Algorta, which had been one of the most worrying sources in recent days, had been extinguished.

Fire declared extinguishedafter having maintained the situation, of the non-existence of smoke columns and/or hot spots, after the passage of more than 8 hours of the day,” the Fire Department said in a statement.

According to the information provided by the Fire Department, the property where the fire started belongs to the Notary Fund and is located at kilometer 73 of Route 25. In this sense, the vice president of this organization, Marcelino González, pointed out to The Observer that the hectares of the box that were burned “they were few” and they were insured. “It is a property exclusive for afforestation“said the chief.

The fire had affected some 75 hectares of pasture, branches, brushwood and wood stockpiles.

González pointed out that from the Notarial Fund they will wait until there is no risk to make assessments about the fire on their property and prepare a report about it.

Firefighters from four departments (Río Negro, Paysandú, Salto and Montevideo), Volunteer Firefighters, staff from the mayor’s office and the Guichón and Algorta mayors’ offices and staff from forestry companies worked at the site. In this sense, they used “air means, heavy machinery and tanks” to try to put out the fire.

For these next few days the Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (inumet) issued a notice this wednesday for a gradual increase in temperature over the next few days.

According to the organization, from this Wednesday, January 4, until next Tuesday, January 10, there will be “scarce cloudiness”, a wildfire risk ‘elevated and rising’ and an “extremely high” UV index during the afternoon.
