After verifying that the pending issues mentioned above were resolved, the Fire Department released the Sambódromo for technical carnival rehearsals. THE avenue had been closed yesterday (27), after carrying out an inspection determined by the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro (TJRJ).
Technical rehearsals at Marquês de Sapucaí began on January 14, with the Ouro Series samba schools performing on Saturdays and the Special Group on Sundays. The Independent League of Group A of Rio de Janeiro (Liga-RJ), which organizes the Golden Series parades, confirmed tonight’s schedule. Four associations will train from 8 pm: União de Jacarepaguá, Vigário Geral, Porto da Pedra and Unidos de Padre Miguel.
The inspection had been determined by the TJRJ in a class action filed by a lawyer. The Fire Department detected defects in the hydrant drive wheels in sectors 5, 6 and 9. In addition, it recorded the absence of connectors and hoses in all sectors of the Sambadrome.
Earlier, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, had expressed confidence in the release. He pointed out that, last year, works were carried out at the Sambadrome. “We carried out a major renovation that provided us with conditions for use. And we had the carnival parades in April last year. It’s just a question of clarification. Lawsuits are like this: people come in, the judge asks for clarification and they are being provided. Let’s go have the rehearsals very calmly”, he said, after participating in the Inauguration of the Carioca Vaccination Super Center.
“These are simple things. It’s a hose here, another there. That’s normal. And it’s good that the firefighters do this work”, scored Paes. He also confirmed that the hoses are not kept in place due to the risk of theft. “We need more public security. People are very comfortable stealing. Traffic lights, fire hoses,” lamented the mayor.

In an interview with different press vehicles, he claimed that the equipment is only installed on the days of technical rehearsals and during Carnival.
