Fire that affects the Dead China National Reserve of Melipeuco activated a red alert in the area

A forest fire that affects the Dead China National Reserve located in the commune of Melipeuco, Araucanía region, generated the activation of the red alert by Onemi. The sinister threatens the Conguillío National Park.

The fire has burned more than 400 hectares of vegetation, while Conaf personnel are on site to try to calm the flames.

The regional director of Conaf, Julio Figueroa, told Cooperativa that “we are today with 58 active fires in the Araucanía Region, a number that we had not had this season and that is quite worrying. There are 30 fires in combat condition, 14 already assigned with resources on the ground”.

In turn, the regional director of Onemi, Janet Medrano, maintained that “there is only a confirmed record of one house that was effectively in Padre Las Casas and, apparently, partial damage to a second one. In the case of the Municipality of Ercilla, the probable damage to a home is also under evaluation.”
