MADRID, Spain.- This Thursday afternoon a fire occurred in the building known as “VIVAC”, in Santiago de Cuba, where the Historical Archive of the City was located since July 1999.
According to the official journalist Cuscó Tarradell through Facebook“it was only in one corner and covered about 40 meters of the roof without considerable damage, nor did it affect the documentary heritage that is still protected there.”
According to their statements, the flames originated in the second level of the building and were suffocated by firefighters commandos 1 and 4 of Santiago de Cuba without any deaths or injuries.
This property was declared a national monument in 1998. It is currently undergoing restoration to become a Heritage Convention Center.
Fires increase in recent weeks
On the 15th of this month, a similar incident occurred on Industria street, between Concordia and Neptuno, in the Centro Habana municipality of the capital, allegedly caused by a man who set a fire.
Last May 11, another fire in a food store of the Guaicanamar Convention Center, located in the municipality of Regla de La Habana, alarmed the inhabitants near the place.
After it began to circulate on social networks that the incident had occurred at the Ñico López Oil Refinery, the news was denied by the official media.
Although they did not explain the causes of the fire at the Guaicanamar Convention Center, belonging to the Petroleum Services Company, EMSERPET, the user Enmanuel López, from the Facebook group “De Regla Somos”, indicated that it was due to an electrical fault.
That same day, a burst in a house on San Nicolás Street, No. 952, in Old Havana, left three people injured, including a minor.
