MIAMI, United States. — This Friday a fire was reported in block 2 of the Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE), in Felton, in the province of Holguín.
A report from the Cuban News Agency (ACN) indicates that the fire was controlled with no deaths or injuries reported in the accident area.
The general director of the thermoelectric plant, Osmel Maturel Reyes, told that outlet that the incident occurred shortly after two in the afternoon, while the turbine of block number two was being shot, as part of the tests prior to its complete commissioning. March.
The information adds that during the operation there was a leak in one of the boiler tubes, through which national crude circulated.
The manager explained that although the boiler was off, its high temperatures caused a fire that caused considerable damage to the unit.
The Cuban News Agency points out that block 1 of the Felton went out of service as a precaution while the fire was put out and it is expected that in a few hours it will rejoin the national electricity system.
Since last June, block number 2 of the CTE Lidio Ramón Pérez was in the process of equipment testing and completion of systems and the assembly of the turbine to get the unit into operation.
The island’s own authorities had assured that the entry into operation of blocks 1 and 2 of the thermoelectric plant would help alleviate the current energy crisis that the country is going through.
