A tragedy shocked the community of Los Toros, in the municipality of Cambita Garabitos, province Saint Christopher: three brothers, aged 4 years, 2 years and 9 months, were burned to death in a fire that destroyed the house where they lived with their grandmother, who at that time had gone out to a grocery store to buy them dinner.
The humble house, built with zinc and wood, was completely destroyed by the flames, which according to preliminary investigations, would have been caused by a short circuit. Only part of a stove and one of the infants’ toy remained.
The neighbors indicated that they tried to put out the fire with buckets of water and sand, but the flames advanced quickly, preventing access to the house to rescue the children.
Nelly Hernandez Rosario, the grandmother of the childrenreturned to the house and found it engulfed in flames. Although she tried to enter to save her grandchildren, the community members stopped her when they realized that it was too late.
The brothers Jeidel, Kairo and Daniela Hernandez were children very happy and “they took care of each other”, as their aunt expressed, Marilenny Hernandez.
“To those children everyone loved them, everyone called them. Just a neighbor, there in front, every time they passed by, they called them and they took care of each other. There were three children very happy,” he said.
He added that there are no words to describe the pain the family feels for the loss of the little ones and that only God can give them the strength necessary to overcome this tragedy.
