A fire near the oil wells of Matanzas was unleashed and quickly extinguished this Saturday after causing alarm in the local population due to the immense column of smoke on the La Conchita coastal community.
The fire occurred in an area through which a pipeline of oil wells from Camarioca’s mouth passes, they reported. There were waste in the weeds poured after repairing a breakdown.
The director of the Petroleum Drilling and Extraction Company, engineer Marcos Testaña Roque, confirmed to local media that the fire had occurred in the weeds close to wells in exploitation, without prejudice to that industry, according to Latin press (PL).
According to the specialist, cited by journalists from Matanzas, the exploitation work continued “without difficulties.”
Tab also assured that the fire extinguishing personnel and the oil company worked in the correction of the incident until the flames extinguish.
In June 2024, another fire occurred that left an immense column of smoke on the city.
This time it occurred in a fuel tank of the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant.

But, in the territory there is the bad memory of the events that occurred in August 2022, when there was a fatal fire in the Superanqueros base, located in the industrial zone of the city.
It produced 17 deaths, the majority firefighters who participated in extinction work.
In addition, 129 people were injured and were treated in hospital centers of Matanzas and Havana.
