The fire recorded last Sunday in the domestic gas plant Orinoco Canyons, in the state of Monagas, it generates concern among the Warao indigenous people of the Antonio Díaz municipality, in Delta Amacuro, who depend on these facilities for supplies.
According to information published by Tane Tanae and testimonies collected in different parishes of that river municipality, every time they travel to Barrancas They transfer their empty cylinders to fill them directly at the plant.
They point out that they choose this alternative because in their communities they can happen more than three months without receiving the service. Those affected explain that getting supplies in Barrancas was the fastest and least expensive way to guarantee gas for cooking.
In Tucupita, they indicate, they must wait about a month for the sales operations to reach their sectors, which also implies higher transportation and logistics costs.
Although Delta Amacuro is supplied mainly from the José filling plant, in the state of Anzoátegui, the Barrancas del Orinoco facility had become a key point for travelers from the Lower and Middle Deltaaccording to the media.
There they could immediately purchase 10-kilogram cylinders, whose price was 1,200 bolivars. Some people used to carry up to 5 cylinders per trip.
The fire was controlled by the personnel working at the plant and no victims were reported.
The causes of the accident have not yet been determined.
