Miami, United States. – A medium -sized fire affects from the early hours of this Friday the Guido Pérez Valdés brewery, located in the Havana municipality of Cotorro.
The activist Yamilka Lafita Cancioknown in social networks such as Lara Crofs, published photos of the incident on Facebook and confirmed that the brewery was “on fire.” The situation has forced the authorities to completely evacuate the plant staff due to the danger of possible landslides and, especially, for the risk of an “ammonia escape,” said Lafita, who was informed by residents of the area.
According to the photos published by the activist and other Cuban Internet users, Fire Department teams and members of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) continue working at the site of the incident to control the fire and prevent the situation from getting worse.
The fire began specifically at plant number 3 of the brewery, where a visible and dense gray smoke column was quickly generated, which could be observed from various points close to the scene.
Various images and videos shared by witnesses through social networks show the seriousness of the incident, as well as the intense deployment of ambulances and firefighters who quickly went to the place to contain the flames.
So far no fatal or injured victims are reported.
The precise causes of the fire have not yet been determined. The official Cuban press has not published any report on the incident.
