More than 120 hectares of the Cerro El Café Municipal Park were consumed this weekend during a fire registered in the area.
The mayor of the Naguanagua municipality, Elizabeth Niño, reported that more than 60 officials from the Carabobo Fire Department, Forest Firefighters and volunteers were deployed to the site since last Thursday to put out the flames.
The voracious fire alerted the inhabitants of the communities near Cerro El Café who were surrounded by the smoke.
Niño highlighted that the fire was controlled thanks to the implementation of strategic firebreaks and direct containment maneuvers, preventing the flames from spreading to residential sectors and electrical substations.
He commented that the authorities remain deployed in the municipal park to prevent hot spots from reactivating due to the strong breeze that is recorded in Naguanagua at this time of year.
Finally, he called on citizen awareness to avoid burning waste or any activity that could cause this type of accident.
Likewise, this Sunday night, fire officials quickly extinguished a fire in the Cerro El Casupo Municipal Park.
