The Fire Department is working today (11) to put out a fire that has hit five commercial buildings on Rua Barão de Duprat, in the region of Rua 25 de Março, in downtown São Paulo, since 9 pm yesterday.
According to firefighters, the fire started on the ground floor of a ten-story building and spread to other properties. Two shops and an Orthodox church building were destroyed. In addition, a six-story building that also caught fire is in danger of collapsing.
According to the Fire Department, it is not yet known what caused the fire and the Civil Police will investigate what happened. At the moment, 65 men are working to contain the flames and 25 vehicles are participating in the work.
Six bus lines that pass through the region were diverted. The São Paulo Municipal Market, which is close to the site, is working, but access to it is compromised, with roadblocks and detours. The entire surrounding area is blocked off.
