Lieutenant Colonel Angel Delgado of the Panama Fire Department, provided recommendations when there was a seismic event such as the one that occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 4, which according to the Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama was 6.9 located 71 kilometers from the Island. of Coiba and that was felt in a large part of the country.
Delgado explained that you have to have a plan for this type of event in three points: before, during and after the event.
Each person must have an emergency plan, if we are at work or at home we must have a plan where to be safe, if it is night to know where to go and the places in the home that can provide us with security.
During a seismic event, people tend to run away, but you have to remain calm to be able to see where you are looking for protection with some furniture. When the event ends, evacuate the place and look for open spaces, if there are none, look for the points meeting point and be attentive to possible aftershocks, if you are in a vehicle you must stop in a safe place and put on flashing lights.
After the earthquake, the main thing is to see the structure of your house or building, if you notice something different about a crack, immediately inform the competent authorities and always have the emergency numbers at hand.
