Fire Department dismisses three units for alleged acts of corruption

After the President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, made the complaint, first through his X account and then at the usual press conference on Thursdays, about alleged acts of corruption in the form of bribery, the command of the Benemérito Cuerpo de Bomberos de la República de Panamá, headed by Colonel Ernesto De León Echevers, ordered the immediate separation of the three units that work in the province of Veraguas.

The announcement was made on Thursday afternoon, but it will not be until Friday, August 9, that the three units that provide service in the National Directorate of Security, Prevention and Investigation of Fires (DINASEPI) will be duly notified by the Human Resources Office, about the separation from office, while the investigations last.

It should be noted that the investigation will be carried out by the Internal Affairs Unit of the Fire Department, which will collect on-site everything related to the “alleged bribe to speed up the occupancy permit procedures.”

For his part, Colonel Ernesto De León Echevers, the acting Director General, urges those affected by these anomalies to file the corresponding complaints with the judicial authorities, so that if these faults are proven, the punishment will be carried out in two ways: administrative, which is the responsibility of the Distinguished Fire Department, and judicial, so that evidence of the punishment remains, because acts like these cannot be tolerated and much less go unpunished.
