The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) promoted Multivaccination D-Day this Saturday (18). The national event is coordinated by the Ministry of Health with the aim of expanding vaccination coverage across the population. There are 16 vaccines for children and eight vaccines for adults.
The action takes place simultaneously across the country. At the institution’s headquarters, in Rio de Janeiro, the president of Fiocruz, Mário Moreira, and the researcher and former Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, participated. The capital has 580 vaccination posts. The event is part of the celebrations of Fiocruz’s 125th anniversary, and its motto is Vacina é Vida, in affirmative action for vaccination and combating misinformation.
“We are working here today for the popularization of science. So that this spirit of celebration, of celebration, accompanies a series of cultural, artistic and educational activities, and shows the Brazilian population what the role of science is in their human development. How research can help the country to have a fairer society with better health”, said Mário Moreira.
The researcher regretted that the vaccine has been very poorly treated in some countries, but highlighted that it is the most effective instrument to guarantee the health of the population. “And Brazil has a tradition in this. Brazil’s National Immunization Program has always been a global reference for everyone. We have a duty to recover our vaccination rates”, he added.
“We cannot let our guard down, this work is constant, Fiocruz joins this movement throughout Brazil coordinated by the Ministry of Health. There are very important vaccines for the population, such as those against polio, HPV, to protect against cervical cancer”, said Nísia Trindade.
