The Institutionality and Justice Foundation (Finjus) urged the various sectors of national life to support the Tenth National Population and Family Census that will be carried out by the National Statistics Office (ONE) starting this Thursday, November 10.
Servio Tulio CastañosVice President of Finjusexplained that the census It is an initiative whose scope, importance and meaning have been explained clearly and precisely by the General Directorate of Statistics, the highest authority of the national statistics system, and which is legally based on Law 5096-59.
In fact, he indicated that, from the most important sectors of the economic, political, social and cultural life of the country, they have insisted on the need for this statistical exercise to be carried out on the date that said law orders, and that it had to be postponed. until 2022 due to the rise of the pandemic two years ago.
He appreciated that the results of this census They will be vital for planning public policies, determining the needs of the different spheres of national life and will allow establishing the guidelines to evaluate the evolution of each one of the sectors that intervene in the national social and economic dynamics.
“Without census figures, there is a risk that public and private institutions could fall into improvisations and subjective errors. of any kind that arise in the heat of the demands of the economic and social factors that we face. If this were the case, we would be contributing to squandering considerable resources for not being supported by objective data that can only be known by carrying out a census like the projected one”, he sentenced.
Castaños Guzmán continued: “Finjus urges the national authorities to adhere to the rule of law and demand compliance with the law in this matter, which in its article 22 makes it mandatory to provide truthful information from all inhabitants to those responsible for carrying out the census and that also establishes in its article 29 the regime of consequences against all forms of obstruction of the correct development of this initiative, which includes officials, those responsible for the statistical system and the population in general”.
Concluding, he stressed that the census it is a national priority and an essential instrument to plan, evaluate and stimulate the development and growth of the Dominican nation.
When will we have the data?
The tenth census It will take place throughout the national territory from this Thursday until November 23.
The director of ONE, Miosotis Rivas, is scheduled to deliver during the first quarter of the year 2023in a preliminary way, data on the total population, population by sex, total dwellings and population density.
Subsequently, throughout the next year, it is planned to present the results of the different sections that make up the census ballot. The first with the entire issue of geographic location, the second with the characterization of the dwellings, the third with respect to the construction of the home, the fourth with the characterization of the home, the fifth with the list of the people who make up the home and the sixth on characterization of people. The idea is to generate a useful database for many sectors.
