Colombia News.
The immigration panorama for Colombians has changed this week with the decision of the United Kingdom to reactivate the visa requirement for Colombian citizens as of December 24, 2024.
This announcement, made by British authorities, is based on a “significant and sustained increase” of Colombian visitors who have tried to use their entry into British territory for purposes not permitted by regulations, such as residing, working or requesting asylum.
The measure reverses the 2022 decision that eliminated this requirement and is part of a strategy by the British Home Office to assess, before travel, whether applicants comply with immigration rules.
📣Communication: starting today the visitor visa requirement for Colombians traveling or transiting through the United Kingdom is reestablished 🇬🇧

In response, President Gustavo Petro announced that Colombia will also apply reciprocity, requiring a visa for British citizens who wish to visit the country.
If the United Kingdom has reestablished the need for visas for the Colombian people, I have to say that due to the principle of reciprocity, the Colombian government will ask for visas from British citizens who want to come to Colombia. https://t.co/btr4exz8ND

Use of the digital ID to travel

However, complaints about the lack of usefulness and functionality of this document by many citizens are frequent.
