With the arrival of the end-of-year festivities, the way banks operate changes and requires attention from customers, especially in relation to payment deadlines and opening hours. The Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) announced what banking hours will be like during the period.
On December 25th (Christmas) and January 1st (Universal Celebration), there will be no face-to-face service at branches nor will bank compensations be carried out, such as Available Electronic Transfers (TED).
Pix, which operates 24 hours a day, including on holidays, will continue to be available as normal.
On December 31st, there will also be no banking hours or compensation.
Christmas Eve
On Christmas Eve (24/12), public service will be reduced. The agencies will open from 9am to 11am, Brasília time. In states with a difference of one or two hours in relation to the federal capital, opening hours will be from 8 am to 10 am.
On December 26th and January 2nd, banks return to normal operation, as long as there are no municipal holidays.
The last day of the year with normal opening hours and full public service will be December 30th.
Accounts and taxes
Consumption bills, such as water, energy and telephone, due on 12/25, 12/31 and 1/1 can be paid without an increase on the next business day.
In the case of taxes and duties, Febraban warns that payment must be made in advance when the due date falls on holidays or days without compensation, to avoid interest and fines.
According to the entity, taxes normally already have dates adjusted to the holiday calendar. Even so, the recommendation is to pay attention and, if necessary, advance payment or schedule payment via electronic channels.
Digital channels
Febraban reinforces that electronic means are a practical and safe alternative during this period. Internet bankingcell phone applications, ATMs, telephone service and banking correspondents allow you to carry out most operations, such as payments, transfers and balance inquiries.
Furthermore, invoices from customers registered as electronic drawers can be paid by Authorized Direct Debit (DDA), facilitating financial organization even on days without in-person service.
