Pope Francis urged calm due to the situation in Ecuador
Pope Francis called this Sunday for calm to all parties involved in the face of the indigenous protests registered in Ecuador that have ended with acts of violence.
«I follow with concern what is happening in Ecuador“, said the Pope after the weekly Angelus prayer in the Vatican.
The 85-year-old Supreme Pontiff urged in particular to “pay attention to the marginalized populations and the poorest, but always respecting the rights of all and the country’s institutions».
The Congress of Ecuador plans to debate this Sunday the impeachment of the president William Lasso after deliberating almost eight hours on Saturday about his responsibility in the «internal commotion«, which leave thirteen days of indigenous protests.
